It was so silly, he knew, but he loved that he could get chicken any time he liked now. He could get chicken for lunch. He could get chicken delivered.
That was the best.
Max had had a thing and Nyx was busy, too. Hex had jumped on the opportunity to get online and play a bit, only pausing when the door alert went off. He left his headset and answered the door in his shorts, a smile on his face for the driver.
Except the driver wasn't there. Not a trace. Just the food stapled shut in a paper bag.
"That's odd," he said as he gathered it all up to bring it in.

"I'll go put it on plates. Like fancy people," Hex grinned, wandering off to put dinner together for Max.
""Do you want noodles or rice or both?" he called from in the kitchen.
no subject
"Oh, just rice please!" Max called back, pulling a few more things from his bag and wandering through. He'd bought some posh tea and coffee, and he placed them next to the electric kettle to share.
"Food smells brilliant."
no subject
"I'm sure I'll get tired of it eventually, but working at the med center, this place was our treat once a month. And now, thanks to you, I can afford it more often," he explained, offering Max a plate he'd done his best to look fancy as a restaurant.
"I think I left me game up, too," he said as he took his own plate. "Let me go shut it all down."
no subject
"You don't have to shut it down. I like watching you play," Max said honestly, taking the plate with a nod of thanks.
no subject
"You don't mind?" he asked, but could see Max didn't.
He took his plate and sat, eating a few bites before picking up the controller to pick his game back up. As he did, he looked at Max and smiled.
Everything had gotten better in his life, everything, since he'd met Max.
"You want to play, too?" he offered.
no subject
"Nah, I'm no good," Max said, leaning against Hex as he settled in with his plate and started eating.
"What did you do today?" he asked between bites.
no subject
"Not a lot. Spent most of the day in the gym, then I came home and showered and I've been playing..."
He scrolled through his stats to show off a bit.
"I was hoping you'd be home tonight. So I was waiting," he added.
no subject
"Should have texted, yeah? All I did today was shop a bit. I was hoping to stream a little later," Max admitted. "You going to join tonight?"
no subject
The question was so casual, and yet a shock of excitement shot through him as he nodded.
"I'd like to," he said quietly.
A couple button taps had the system paused and he put the controller aside.
"You been getting a lot of views alone?" he asked curiously.
no subject
"I do well, but people do ask for you," Max noted. "You have a lot of fans."
no subject
Max reminded him of that from time to time, and Hex would like to believe it...but he didn't. He'd believe some people liked his cock or his muscles, but to him it was Max that was worth watching. Max with the beautiful eyes. With the sweet, soft lips. With the lovely, graceful lines of his neck...his arms...
His brain went a bit blank as he admired Max.
"Oh, sure," he agreed after a minute. "That one bloke always sends me a tenner, yeah?"
He smiled at that. He'd accept he had that one fan.
no subject
Max thought he was joking, and laughed softly. "I've missed you, it's always good having you in streams. You make me feel more confident."
no subject
"That's good, yeah? I always like when I can tell you're having a good time," he said as he tucked into his dinner.
no subject
"It's easy having a good time with you," Max shrugged. "Sometimes I think you and Jack are the only people I feel I can be myself around. Maybe Greg too."
He paused then, realizing he'd not said much about Jack before. He still wasn't sure what to tell Hex about his other job. Mostly he said it was tech related, and then as little else as he could.
no subject
"Yeah? He's good to work for?" Hex asked, not a shred of jealousy, only curiosity. "And he's good to you?"
no subject
"He is, yeah," Max nodded, hesitating, then admitting, "Even after I made a tit of myself. I asked him out, went back to his, and... I couldn't, um, perform. Not without help. I thought I was over that."
no subject
"Was he a prick about it?" he asked, brows furrowing with concern. "You've been...you're always fine with me..."
no subject
"No, he was really sweet about it actually," Max said. "Proper gentleman and all that. Told me I should stay anyway. It was nice," he confessed.
no subject
"Alright," Hex nodded. "Thought for a second I was going to have to fight him, too."
He grinned at that, then realized he hadn't shown Max his contract. Wiping his fingers, he reached for the envelope.
"I got a great deal for this exhibition," he said. "I know I said I wasn't going to fight anymore, but I can't pass this up."
When he handed it to him, he showed Max the final payout.
When Hex had seen it, he'd held it together, then had gotten a bit sick as soon as he was alone.

Max saw the number, and his stomach dropped. That was moving out and up money. That was new life money.
That was I don't need you, money.
"...Oh. Um, I mean, that's great, Hex. Congratulations," he said softly.
no subject
Hex smiled and nodded.
"We'll be set, yeah? Chicken every day," he said.
no subject
"Not my money, Hex," Max said gently. "That's all you, yeah? You earned it."
no subject
"I ain't earned it yet. Until it's in me account, it's just numbers on paper," he said.
He knew how quickly money could come and go with promoters. He knew that.
"Be nice if I see...half, no, a third. Nice if I see a third of that."
no subject
"You're owed it all," Max replied. "Just wish you didn't have to fight. I worry about you, yeah?"
But the fact that Hex was so bloody good at it was something to admire.
no subject
"There's nothing to worry about," he scoffed lightly. "I"m good at it, yeah? No one can touch me."
He was confident in that, too.
"Do you want to be there?" he asked. "I could get you a front row seat."
