Nyx and Hex
He'd come home with some food, but had set it aside, stripped, and settled in the nest with the thought that when Nyx came home, they could eat together.
His last thought before his eyes drooped shut.
Nyx laughed brightly, a sharp contrast to his once aggressive and guarded behaviour.
"If you catch me though, you have to keep me," he warned.
"Good, because I will keep you too," Nyx purred. "You are mine now. My Hex mine."
"Love is a heavy word for some," Nyx said. "I love you too though, you live in my heart now."
"Does it upset you?" Nyx asked curiously. He thought it might upset him to lose such a gift around someone.
"I would think it would make it easier to control them," Nyx said, tilting his head a bit.
Nyx purred a bit more, then gently tugged Hex down for a kiss. He felt safe with Hex in a way he'd forgotten he could.
"What does that mean?" Nyx asked, watching Hex with those wide, intense eyes. "Tell me. Explain in ways I understand."
"I don't want it," Nyx said quickly, almost defensively. He didn't like feeling his own feelings, he couldn't imagine feeling someone else's as well. To him that sounded like torture.
"Please," he added awkwardly, not wanting to be rude.
"My kin don't marry... Didn't marry. We live in groups. Sometimes people float between groups. Many make it so you are never alone. Many make it so we can care for our young," he explained, trying to find the right words. "Even as a royal, we mixed with others. Some Nobel, some not... We would sleep in piles, sharing beds, and bodies. It was rare to see two alone together."
"Yes, I imagine so," Nyx nodded, looking thoughtful.
"Did you have many lovers?" Nyx asked with a little purr, stretching out on the bed.
Nyx started to purr again at that, nuzzling at Hex once more.
Love. That was such a nice word.
"I never loved either. Cared, wanted. Not loved though. Not in love."
