No one asked Hex those sorts of things. No one asked because they all knew him. He'd been aboard for so long.
For a moment, Hex collected his thoughts.
"I've been with the captain since I was a lad," he said. "I got pinched and the Judge said Navy or gallows and I took the risk of the sea. First week out, I was still green, and me captain decided to take on this ship. Captain Bond wrecked the ship I was serving on. As the crew salvaged the wreckage, I was the only one alive. I wasn't going home, so I earned me keep. I do a bit of everything, yeah? Whatever Captain says."
