Hex felt a bit bad getting paid for not doing much. The work wouldn't really start til Nyx went touring. Today, Hex was on his own as the band was rehearsing, or maybe laying down tracks. He wasn't sure. It didn't matter, though, because he'd taken his free day to go shopping a bit. He had a few bags hanging from one hand, his phone in the other, looking for a bite. According to the map, a sandwich place was just past the bookshop.

He stopped to look around. The map said it was here, but he wasn't seeing, or smelling it.

"He stops eating, won't get out of bed..." Rain explained. "Just gets more and more ill."

"And that's if he and Willy are apart for too long?" Hex asked.

"That won't happen. I'll smash them back together if that'll keep him healthy."

He picked up his last bite of kebab.

"They're sort of a mess, yeah? That's the impression I get," he mentioned.

"It's not always tied to his proximity to Willy. He just has these episodes is all. ...But yes, they're messy. They always have been, I think," Rain admitted.

"I like Willy. He saved me from something...not good, yeah? I don't think he wants me for anything more than security. I liked it, there at the beginning. When everyone was happy," he sighed. "Faeries are different than wolves. I don't understand why we can't all be happy together."

It was rare Hex let it all out, but he couldn't exactly tell Nyx to choose Willy sometimes without the nymph feeling rejected. He knew Nyx that well. He needed to tell someone, though.

"A lot of fae share lovers, especially nymphs. Nyx and Willy are complicated though. Their bond isn't just about them, there's politics involved," Rain explained.

"Because they're princes, yeah?" Hex asked.

His nose wrinkled and his brows twitched with a question.

"Why are they even here? Instead of...prince-ing?" he asked.

[whispering_to_fate]

"Same reason I'm here," Rain shrugged. "None of us are next in line for the crown, and sitting around the palace all day... Well, it isn't fulfilling. It's not like being a royal here where you're always proving to the people you'll look after them. Fae don't need looking after. We're only considered royal because our bloodline is the strongest. Other fae live just as well, needs are easily met... It's not a utopia or anything, but for the nymphs there's not even war to worry about. Bit different for Willy's kind, I suppose. The seelie and unseelie are always at odds, but... I admit I don't even really understand how that works. ...For Nyx and I though, staying just means a lot of boring dinners and getting passed about to whoever's looking to trade."

"Oh. That don't sound nice at all," he said, wrinkling his nose again, but this time with distaste.

"Nyx is going to take there for little holiday," he offered. "Not to the palace. Just the nymph lands."

"Is he? Did he say where you'll go?" Rain asked, wondering where Nyx would go.

[just_hex]

"Yes," he replied confidently, nodding as well.

For a moment he offered no more...

"But I forgot what he said. Not the palace, though. He doesn't want to go there."

[whispering_to_fate]

"Right..." Rain said. "I'm sure it'll be an interesting trip. Tell me more about you, Hex. What were you doing before Nyx? Did you have another job? Other lovers?"

Nyx had a habit of crashing into the lives of others and making a bit of a mess, Rain was sure that much hadn't changed.

"Not really. Odd jobs. I made most of me money in underground fights. Full moon fights, yeah? Willy found me there," he explained.

"I didn't have anyone special. Just me pack," he shrugged. "After the attack...I get by."

Rain couldn't help but wonder what Hex would do when Nyx eventually got bored. He decided it was best not to worry. ...Nyx's messes weren't his to clean up.

"Sounds dangerous," was all Rain said. "This has been interesting, but I should go. ...Maybe don't tell Nyx you ran into me?"

"No? Why not?" Hex asked.

He'd need a good reason to keep such a secret.

[whispering_to_fate]

"He'll just get all intense about it. He'll worry I told you something he didn't want you to know or that I'm going to run home to dad or something. Which I'm not. Nyx and I don't... We don't communicate well. One of us always winds up upset. It's why I stay out of his way now," Rain shrugged.

Hex listened, head tilted as he took it in.

"That's...sad. I don't have a brother, but I'd like to think if I did? We'd talk," he said softly.

[whispering_to_fate]

"You can love someone and still understand that some distance is needed. Maybe one day we'll be able to spend time together without getting annoyed with one another, I'm just not sure we're there yet is all. Nyx doesn't understand why I don't have a dozen lovers, and I get tired listening to him list all of his," Rain shrugged. "We're just very different."

"You don't?" he asked, clearly surprised by the news.

"Why not?"

"I would rather find one special person," Rain shrugged. "Perhaps not normal in the eyes of my kin, but I see nothing wrong with it."

[just_hex]

"I don't see anything wrong with it, either. As long as you don't suffer from a lack...I think that's romantic," he replied, a sweet, boyish half-smile tugging the corer of his mouth up.

[whispering_to_fate]

"Would be a bit more romantic if there was anyone," Rain said thoughtfully. "But I know what's best for my soul."

[just_hex]

"I'd tell you to find a wolf, too...except me pack's a bunch of wankers," Hex chuckled.

[whispering_to_fate]

"I'll meet someone when the time's right. Life is very long, I'm in no rush," Rain said with a soft purr.
