"The reason I've come," he said, showing Nyx as he walked in and then closed and locked the door.

"Will says he wants to join the tour," he said after a moment. "Said he'll open for us."

"Is that a good thing or a bad thing?" he asked, clearly clueless.

"Good, I think. Good," Nyx yawned. "We're going to write a few songs together, I think."

"If I write a song, I'll open for you, too. When you sing together, I'll open," he offered with confidence and conviction.

"...I didn't know you were musical," Nyx replied, looking surprised. "Have you written anything before?"

"Sure, mate," Hex laughed. "When I was fifteen, I was gonna be a rap star, yeah? I haven't written anything, though. Not in forever."

His smile was bright. He had no illusions he was a musician. Rapping had lasted about five months, if he'd have to guess.

"Wanna hear me best?" he asked, then didn't wait for Nyx's answer.

He didn't need permission, after all.

Most of the time, Hex's accent was mild. He'd been in London for years and the Scouse had softened.
