Christmas had been lovely, though a bit awkward with Aaron there, then he and Spencer leaving together so early. It had left Hex with Assassin's Creed which was just as Logan had said what with the face glitching. He'd had a good laugh and then gone to bed. And Boxing Day he'd gotten up and gone to work like always. But when he'd gotten off he indulged in what he'd been thinking of all day. He got to work and made up a steamed pudding- cranberry orange as promised with a sweet orange sauce and he'd called Logan. Armed with the treat he'd gone to the Ritz and found the penthouse suite.

"Do you even have Boxing Day in America?" he asked when Logan opened the door- instead of hello. "I brought you a steamed pudding and it's still warm since I took a cab. Come on, let's eat."

"I knew a rich bloke when I was in the Army. He was an officer so it wasn't as if we were mates, but we talked from time to time," Hex said, knowing his perception was truly skewed. "But I grew up with me nan in Liverpool. Me dad worked the docks til he died, and she was a pensioner. It was always tight for me."

Loan had softened slightly over the last year or so- But not enough to feel bad for the guy. Logan came from a world of haves and have nots, and he honestly was just glad to be in one category rather than the other.

"Guess we wont be planning ski vacations and going car shopping together then," he said with a casual shrug.

To Hex's mind he was fairly well off. He had his savings from the service- not a lot to buy in the desert- and he made bloody good money as a full nurse. He lived modestly because it was how he'd been raised between his savings and what he knew his pension was...

"I reckon it's rude to talk about money, yeah? But if you wanted to go skiing I could swing that. I don't know how to ski, though, that's the problem. As for cars? I don't know if you've noticed the traffic in the city but you'd be better off hiring a car than trying to park. Just a suggestion."

"I like having my own wheels," Logan said, shaking his head a bit. "It's freeing."

"I've never owned a car. They had to teach me to drive the ambulance when i was being trained in the Army," Hex replied. All the differences between his life and Logan's were so striking and they amused him to no end.

"Yeah? I had to leave my car in California. I'm schedualed to take the driving exam here next month though, so as soon as I get my licence, I'm going to just buy a car."

"Do you want something flash or practical? I'm betting you go in for flash, yeah?" he asked, moving to sit down and get comfortable.

"I'm thinking convertible," Logan grinned. "Something fast... Practical is all relative, right?"

"Oh, I imagine so, yeah," Hex nodded. He thought it would be best to not mention how seldom Logan would get to put the top down. He figured that wasn't the point.

"So why'd you pick UCL and not King's or, well, any of the others?" he asked, curious to what drew Logan to London at all to begin with when there were plenty of unis in America. It was a hellishly large country, after all.

"I don't know, it sounded good, and they were willing to take me. ...Honestly, I just needed to get away from home, you know?" Logan shrugged.

Hex was beginning to piece together an idea of why Logan might need to get away from home- a mother dead, a father who was no longer an actor, it painted a tawdry picture. But Hex didn't pay attention to entertainment news so he was basically lost for any sort of gossip.

"I reckon I do," he said. "That's how I felt when I joined the Army. I just needed to get away from home."

"Was home really that bad?" Logan asked, taking his eyes off the game for just a moment as he glanced over at Hex.

Hex's smile faltered and fell, but then he licked his lips and forced it back into place.

"Yeah, well...yeah. It wasn't good," he admitted.

Logan watched him a moment longer, then returned his attention to the game.

"That sucks, man," he said finally.

"Mmm," he agreed quietly, then turned his attention to the game as well. For the next long while he said nothing of significance- just giving Logan tips and mocking him companionably. Then Hex broke left and got stuck out in the open and moments later he was dying a most dramatic death.

"Oh, bloody hell. That was me own mistake," he said.

Logan laughed, looking pleased with himself. "Three-sixty no-scope, man."

"Let's start another mission," Hex said, but then he checked his watch. "It's late, though. Do you want to go again? Or are you tired?"

Logan finished his beer, then shrugged. "Kind of tired," he admitted. "Can't tell if it's the jet-lag or the beer though."

He'd had nearly the whole case, and he was a little tipsy as he laughed and got to his feet. "I'm going to brush my teeth. ...I don't know if there are spare sheets to make up the couch, but the bed is huge, man. Bigger than a standard king. You can share if you want."

Hell, Dick and Duncan both had crashed on the same bed as him in the past. To Logan, that sort of thing was totally normal.

"Oh? Oh, all right," he said, thinking nothing of it himself. He'd slept in tight quarters and community tents with plenty of blokes and it had always been innocent.

"Yeah, mate, let's call it a night."

Logan took his time, brushing his teeth and washing his face, then changing into loose fitting pyjama bottoms.

"I don't know if I've got anything you can borrow to sleep in," he admitted. "I wear my stuff loose, but you're kind of, uh, broad compared to me."

"I can sleep in me clothes," Hex assured him, though he had his shoes off and when he sat on the bed he peeled his shirt off. He was nearly flawless, his muscles sculpted and defined, his skin golden. On his chest, near his heart, was a small star shaped scar where he'd taken a bullet. Other than that, he was...perfect.

Logan nodded, his gaze flickering over Hex curiously, then away as he pulled back the covers and climbed into bed.

Hex climbed beneath the covers as well and groaned as he settled into the plush bed.

"Oh, this is nice," he said. "Top notch."

Logan stretched and nodded, rolling onto his side to look at Hex.

"Wouldn't stay here if it wasn't," he grinned.

Hex rolled to face Logan and smiled at him.

"Fair enough, mate," he said. "I'm going to sleep like a baby."
