Hex felt a bit bad getting paid for not doing much. The work wouldn't really start til Nyx went touring. Today, Hex was on his own as the band was rehearsing, or maybe laying down tracks. He wasn't sure. It didn't matter, though, because he'd taken his free day to go shopping a bit. He had a few bags hanging from one hand, his phone in the other, looking for a bite. According to the map, a sandwich place was just past the bookshop.

He stopped to look around. The map said it was here, but he wasn't seeing, or smelling it.

"You don't have to make excuses, I'm not upset. We often go long stretches without speaking. It's part of how we are, I suppose. It was different when we were children, but we have our own lives now. ...Can't imagine Willy is pleased to hear you're dating though," Rain noted.

"I don't know if he cares or not," he replied. "He hasn't skinned me, though, so he can't be that cross. And I told Nyx I'm not taking him away from a soul mate, or whatever..."

Something on the wind caught his attention and he paused to sniff.

"Did the kebab place move?" he asked.

"Oh, I don't know," Rain said softly. "I don't come here much. Is that where you were headed? I suppose it is lunch time."

"I just need to eat and I thought it was close. I need to find something, quick," he explained. "You want to join me? Nyx hasn't told me much at all about his family."

His smile was kind, as were his eyes. There was something about the way he said Nyx's name, like it was special and rare.

And then his stomach growled.

Rain seemed unsure, but after a moment nodded. This might be the only way to learn how his brother was doing.

"That would be nice, you're kind to offer," Rain said.

"You say that now," Hex chuckled. "Just wait."

He began to wander, letting his nose guide him. It wasn't long until a shop appeared with Hex's kebabs he'd smelled from all the way back there.

"That's it," he grinned. "Come on. Anything you want."

Rain could have anything at all that he wanted, provided Hex left anything at all.

Not much of an eater, Rain ordered one thing, watching with a bit of shock as Hex ordered enough to keep him fed for an age.

"You have an impressive appetite," he noted.

"I have a really fast metabolism. And, erm, fitness," he said. "And, you know, the wolf."

He didn't think it should be shocking. Everyone who knew Nyx knew, Hex didn't think for a moment Rain would be excluded.

Rain looked a bit shocked, but said nothing at first. He wasn't like Nyx, he couldn't just smell what people were- Not without trying.

"Oh," he said softly.

Hex arched a brow.

"I'm not going to hurt you," he assured him. "I'm safe, I swear."

[whispering_to_fate]

"No, I'm sure," Rain said, looking apologetic for his reaction. "Sorry, just don't really know many of your kind is all."

"We stick to our own kind, mostly. A lot of wolves travel as nomads," he explained.

[whispering_to_fate]

"I see," Rain nodded. "Must be odd then, spending so much time with fae."

[just_hex]

"It's...different. Lots of manners and rules. And magic," he nodded.

[whispering_to_fate]

"And I can't imagine Willy is pleased to have you," Rain added.

[just_hex]

"That, too. Weirdly possessive. That's weird," he said.

[whispering_to_fate]

"Not really. Nyx and I are nymph, we love freely- Well, Nyx does at least. Willy is different. I'm sure he loves more freely than most humans, but he and Nyx are bonded. They can only be apart so long before they start feeling the effect. They'll get moody, Nyx will get depressed. They might feel sick, or heartbroken," Rain said. "Has Nyx not mentioned that? No, I imagine he didn't bother. Nyx is prone to depression anyway, and is always convinced he can handle it himself."

"He told me," he nodded.

He stopped eaten, wiping his hands and mouth.

"I tried to get him to patch it up, but until Willy quits being an arse about Nyx's music? I'm not what's come between them."

"I wasn't accusing you," Rain replied simply. "I'm just telling you."

[just_hex]

"Didn't think your were," he smiled. "im just saying, I see what Nyx needs. I'm not an obstacle."

"Let's just hope he opens his eyes then," Rain said, sipping his drink. "How did you meet him?"

[just_hex]

"Oh! Willy saw me at the fights and brought me home for security. But Nyx said he gets babysitters," he explained.

"Something like that... Nyx doesn't do well if you leave him alone too much," Rain admitted. "That's less of a problem these days."

[just_hex]

"He's really busy now," Hex nodded. "And never alone. Unless he wants to be, I mean, yeah?"

Rain nodded a bit, but still seemed quietly concerned.

"I just worry is all."
