Hex had been sneaking texts to Corbin in between patients. The man wasn't answering, probably working, so he sent one more message.

I'll be home after 8. Going to gym. Maybe I'll see you <3

He couldn't get enough of the other man. He wanted to see him all the time. He was always on Hex's mind.

He hit the gym and did his usual circuit, then showered. That was when he checked his phone to see if he'd be alone tonight.

"Walt didn't like the direction I wanted to take my career. Thought I should stick to the stage when I could. Was always going on about being one of the greats, not a sell out, but- Theater doesn't always pay well, and I like nice things, you know? I'm not ashamed of that. ...So we'd fight, he'd disapprove, try and change my mind. While I was in America shooting that Agatha Christie film I hooked up with someone. Walt was pissed, but he forgave me, and we fell back into bed a week later- But it was exciting, being with someone new. Walt's been my whole world since I was barely out of school, and suddenly I was looking at other people, wondering what I missed out on, you know? Eventually we separated, and then I asked for a divorce. I was kind of shocked when Walt agreed. ...But he's never walked away altogether, you know? And I- um. I miss him sometimes," he confessed.

He'd been right. He didn't want to know. Everything Corbin said made him feel worse. He'd been fancying that this might be like falling in love. Now he thought he was probably just a bit of excitement. Something new. And he didn't know why that bothered him so much. He hadn't even been looking for a relationship...

"I think being independent is a good choice, yeah? He can't run your life."

"Yeah- But I'm shit at it," Corbin admitted. "Look how fast I fell for you. In less than a day I was all about you. ...God, you must think I'm such a twat."

"I think you're lovely," he said quietly. "I..."

It really wasn't the right time. For a moment he actually bit the tip of his tongue.

"I think everything about you is lovely," he said instead.

Corbin looked surprised, then wet his lips with a flick of his tongue.

"I think you're lovely too, Hex."

"Really lovely," he nodded, his voice soft as he leaned in to kiss him.

Corbin kissed him in return, holding Hex's shoulder lightly, and hoping the other man could forgive him for being such a mess.

"Really...really lovely," he whispered against Corbin's lips.

He realized then that it was much too late for him. As he kissed the other man his chest tightened and his heart thrummed hard. He felt drawn to him and Hex was willing to succumb to that gravity, even if it meant crashing to his doom.

He clutched at him and pulled him closer roughly, his kiss growing hungrier.

Corbin wanted to warn him away, to tell him that he would only fuck this up- But he was selfish, and Hex was wonderful, and... All he wanted to do was kiss him more.

"Corbin," he murmured softly, He cradled his face and held him there. Hex kissed him until his lips stung. It was only then that he pulled away.

He looked at the other man for a moment, then smiled softly.

"I'll stay if you want me to..."

"I do- I do want you to. ...But are you sure you want to?" Corbin asked softly.

"I want to," he nodded. "I don't want to be anywhere else. If I left, I'd only text you all night..."

"I just need you to know- I'm gonna fuck up, Hex. I always fuck up. Always- And I'm sorry. ...Just know fucking things up with you is going to break my heart," Corbin said, getting more upset than he meant to.

"Shh. Shh-shh-shh," he exhaled as he kissed him, the sound breaking against Corbin's teeth as Hex made it impossible for him to keep talking. "It's alright. Shh..."

He dragged Corbin close and then moved to press him into the bed. He kissed him hard, one hand slipping beneath the man's robe. He didn't want to think about heartbreak. Now that he knew it was coming, he could brace for it. He was alright with that. He didn't want to waste even a second of the time they had between now and when it fell apart.

Corbin moaned into the kiss, holding on tight, his body lifting to meet Hex's, arching against him eagerly as he tugged at the man's shirt in search of more skin.

"Want you, Hex. I need you."

He drew back so he could peel his shirt off over his head and toss it away. He hovered over Corbin, the shape of his muscles accentuated with dim light and dark shadow.

"You need me," he agreed. He kept himself up on his right arm and his left slid along Corbin's chest up to his throat.

Where he suddenly gripped tightly.

"No one else. I want you to keep your mind on me. Understand?" he said softly. Almost, almost, kindly.

"Wait, don't," Corbing gasped, catching Hex's wrist. "Please, not today. Not tonight, please. I just- I just want to try and be normal. I don't want to be like this, Hex."

He didn't want to lean into all the things he'd gotten with Walt.

Hex stopped and looked deeply confused for a moment.

"Just...normal?" he asked.

It occured to Corbin then that his whole appeal to anyone was probably his ability to submit. That without it he might be boring.

"I mean, just... Not choking," he said, the idea of Hex being disinterested enough to make him retreat back into his old self. "I mean normal bondage things. Ropes and that."

He managed to pull off the lie quite smoothly, he thought.

He...did not. Hex saw right through it and he pulled his hand away.

"No one ever wants anything normal from me," he said.

It wasn't exactly true, but it was certainly true recently. Hex petted him softly and settled in half atop him. A shy smile flashed and vanished.

"You really want to just...be with me?" he asked.

Corbin was silent a moment, then nodded.

"I like that other stuff, I really do, but right now I just want you. No toys, no games, just us, yeah?"

In that moment, Hex realized that losing this man was going to wreck him. Utterly destroy.

He kissed him then, achingly sweet, pressing himself as close as he could get and holding on tight.

The idea that Hex wasn't running, even though Corbin had pretty much laid it all out now- Addict. Cheater. Emotional wreck. ...It was something he'd never felt before. Hex wasn't running, wasn't laughing, he was just staying. Holding on.

That was incredible to him.

Corbin returned the kiss, holding on tighter now.

Hex kept him close, breathing him in. When the kiss broke he brushed his lips against him before pulling away.

"Shh," he hushed again against his lips. Hex arched a little and pushed him into the bed. "I don't want to go, Corbin. I only want to be here. With you. Like this..."
